About Robin Hoagland, CSB
Robin Hoagland, CSB grew up in an ecumenical household, with one parent practicing Christian Science and the other active in another Christian denomination. For many years, she alternated in attending the Sunday Schools of these two churches. And while she deeply appreciated the kindness and love of both congregations, she was ultimately drawn to the way Christian Science showed her how God was knowable and ever-present, and how prayer was practical and effective in resolving whatever difficulties we face.
College provided her with many opportunities to test the reliability of spiritual healing in Christian Science, and she found it fully freed her from contagious illnesses, sports injuries, and recurrent depression. It also helped her navigate through the moral complexities of a secular culture, allowing her to live joyfully independent of peer pressures. In fact, Robin developed a raised-eyebrow reputation as the only rugby player on the team who didn’t drink – an outward expression of her commitment to spiritual living and healing in every activity in which she participated. While Robin graduated from Williams College Magna Cum Laude and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, she feels that raising two children with her husband has given her the richest education of all.
After experiences in publishing, public radio, and freelance writing, she realized her greatest joy was in sharing Christian Science with others. With the unstinting support of her husband and family, she entered the full-time public practice and began advertising in The Christian Science Journal in 1999. Eventually, a deep desire to support others in their understanding of the Science of Christianity impelled her to apply to be a teacher of Christian Science and she became one in 2006. She was also a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship from 2007 until 2013 when she was appointed to the Christian Science Board of Directors. In 2022, she returned to the fulltime practice of Christian Science.
About the Association
The Association of the Pupils of Robin Hoagland, CSB, meets one Saturday during the fall in Hyannis, MA.
Students and guests come together to build on the foundational ideas covered in their class instruction and to strengthen their ongoing practice of Christian Science. An address from Robin explores a theme to deepen their spiritual understanding and the application of these ideas. Those in attendance also have the opportunity to address individual, local, and world issues from a spiritual perspective. As additional inspiration, Association attendees hear testimonies and experiences from members’ own study and demonstration of Christian Science.
Class-taught students of Christian Science who are unable to attend their own association meetings for that year or those whose associations have been disbanded are welcome to attend the Hoagland Association as guests, with prior approval or invitation from Robin. Please see the Guests section on this site for details.
